Drawings Are Fun To Do
Drawings are something that I like to do all of the time. The best part about drawing is that I can do them anywhere. It’s easy to do with just a pen and paper. Sometimes, I will just look around at the different shapes around me and add texture. Other times, I will look at things but just add extra lines and dots. The best part about abstract art is I can design what I think I see. As you can see, a lot of my drawings have to do with mountains and flowers.
The Tools Of The Trade
To make my drawings, it’s best to make sure I have a notebook and pen nearby. Any pen can do, but I learned by testing different tools. A tool in art is how I apply the ink (or medium) to the paper (or surface). Other artists will doodle with only one pen and nothing else. I, on the other hand, like to try new things and explore. I always tell my husband that there are a lot of “happy accidents” in art, and sometimes that happens because I tried using a new pen. So, I encourage you to try new pens, pencils, and anything else you can get your hands on.
Art Starts With An Idea
Drawings don’t have to be complete in my head before I start. I have an idea of what the main picture will look like, but not all of the details. The illustrations start with an outline, then I can fill in the details. For the more realistic pieces of art like my flowers, I will have either a picture or a real flower in front of me. I make a sketch and then draw heavier and with thicker ink to make it more permanent and pop off of the page.
Most of my paintings and patterns start off as sketches and then I fill them in either digitally or with paint. Please look at those as well and be sure to subscribe to my newsletter so you can know about what projects I’m currently working on.
